Greetings everyone!
I have only recently stumbled across NeoAxis but I love it already! Finally a means to create decent games without starting from the bottom up! I applaud all of you who've contributed.
Now, the problem I may have found.
I had noticed that the game engine ran a wee bit sluggish on my machine. Even with most of the all-too-fancy effects turned down it was struggling to keep above the 35 FPS mark. Curious as I was I tried to find the source of this, because most other games I had played, most which looked to be on equal grounds with this engine visually, ran a whole lot better with more going on.
So I started messing around with the debug mode. This was how I found out the use of Zones and Portals and was able to admit the first tweaks on my own game's end. Things where running better and better, when I noticed something odd in the numbers on the debug screen.
Here is a shot from a busy scene. As you can see, a lot is being drawn, or considered for rendering.
The Debug screen. Note how it reports ~ 80.000 triangles. It seems a bit steep, but there's a lot going on.
A lot less busy. If you look just above the current 'frame' you can see the doorway through which I was looking in the 'busy' scene. Most of of the level is not being drawn, or considered. This is the standard "CorridorExit" model by the way
Here's where things get really strange. Notice that it reports 30K polys being rendered (or being stuck in the pipe, I'm not sure which one). That's insane! It's just rendering the one model!
Now I've been moving around, making sure there isn't something I missed with my zoning or that I misplaced a portal or somesuch. The other sections of this, rather small, level do not appear at all. It's just rendering this section of the Corridor Exit model, yet it reports a stunning 30K polygons.
Either I missed something, and will hereby make myself look sufficiently daft, or there's something wrong with the rendering process. I hope there's some people here that will be able to help me figure out which it is, and take appropriate action.
This project is awesome, and I just hope this can make it a bit better

As i assume you have many triangles for shadow generation.
You can try to disable shadows.
